A Child is Born

On October 25th 2003, Kasie Savage gave birth to a 6 pound 14 ounce boy. She and husband Brad named their first born, Wyatt. 5 weeks later, as Kasie stared at her nearby bundle of joy through an awkward downward dog at her Mommy and Baby Yoga class, the instructor came up to her and offered her a tip on attachment parenting and babywearing- get a sling! Wyatt had not been a fan of his European-styled upright carrier. Kasie wanted to try a sling.

The Competition… Sort Of

So within the musty trunk of the Yoga instructor’s car lay a hodge-podge of large bulky tie-dyed, polyester fabric slings. Rifling through the teddy bear prints, Kasie chose the best of the lot – a quasi-blue white pouff with large white rings and massive padded rails. Assured by the instructor that the one she’d chosen was indeed the best of the bunch, Kasie took home her $80 heap of a sling and vowed never to wear it in public… after all, what’s best for baby is all that mattered right? Who cared about style and function when the stitches from childbirth were still fresh.  Something didn’t feel right and it wasn’t the episiotomy. Her Dr. Sears Baby Book had an entire chapter on the importance and benefits of babywearing and she’d seen the evidence first hand – Wyatt was a big fan, all cozy in his man-made womb. But something didn’t jive. Namely, the image of herself in the mirror looking like an acid-washed marshmallow. There had to be a better way.

The Lightbulb Moment

So off to the fabric store she went. A woman on a mission to create a stylish sling that looked better and felt better-a high-fashion baby sling made from the finest materials for all the sassy Moms who after childbirth wanted to retain some sense of  self and, most importantly, give their babies the very best- the comfort of a sling cradling them in a womb-like hold. An idea was born.

The WOMBaby Sling is Born

By the time Kasie was pregnant again, she had sold scores of gorgeous hand-made slings through word-of-mouth referrals…until she could no longer keep up. Noah, their second little bundle, was born January 3rd, 2006. 8 pounds, 8 ounces of plump perfection…with one little exception… he was a “spirited” baby (cried incecently). Her WOMBaby Sling paid for itself the first time she slipped his rotund little self into the softly lined interior of one.  And he rarely emerged from it for the first 6 months!!  Never has a peep been heard from him while in his sling.  “You have such a happy baby” people would say. Naptime involved slipping the fabric over his eyes where he’d contentedly drift off.  All parents must have this sling she thought. And so, WOMBaby Slings was officially launched online in August 2006 and now the entire world has access to the original WOMBaby Sling that for a short time, was only available the select few who had word-of-mouth access to the collection.

Enjoy your WOMBaby!
